In the early 1970s - founded on a hobby - Michael Werner commenced trading as a consultant in antiques and, since 1978, with an emphasis on antique silver. His professional background in both the arts and visual communications lies at the root of his interest in this field.
Apart from intrinsic period styles and objects' varied historical contexts it is the use of materials, their textures and colours, the fascination by the various forms into which they have been crafted or shaped, their aesthetic appeal and modern-day applications that continue to be his primary cause of enthusiasm. In acquiring antiques great emphasis is placed upon authenticity and quality.
At first, personal introductions and recommendations from collectors and prospective buyers evolved. In advising and assisting them in their quest of antiques, as well as rendering expert opinions and valuations for insurance and claims purposes, a trade based on commissioned orders was established. Eventually, our business expanded into a predominantly Continental clientele of collectors and established dealers.
Providing a personalised service, by paying periodic visits by appointment, benefits clients the comfort of viewing antique objects at their homes, at their specified time and, due to the nature of this approach, without any of the effort or inconvenience that sometimes can be associated with visiting a shop.
The success of conducting sales in this way clearly is based on mutual trust. Assuring clients of our integrity and furnishing them with expert knowledge in respect of research and the correct assigning of objects, as well as our commitment to sincerity in terms of their condition and authenticity of origin, has invariably resulted in repeated sales to trusting and satisfied clients.
As an extension of this principle, now our Internet Gallery affords the viewing of antique objects on the web anytime.
For almost two decades Michael Werner also was appointed sole contributor of antique silver objects, period cut crystal and a variety of artefacts to the renowned and unique annual sales exhibitions of Atelier Rosenzweig, later the Südstadt-Gelerie, in Cologne.
In the many years of trading not one items was ever returned, nor did a client's payment ever fail. Hopefully, conducting business via the internet will be as pleasant and beneficial to us both.
