Kinco's choice of patterns was of Japanese, Chinese or Indian origin, adapted to suit the British taste. They are believed to be influenced by the work of Christopher Dresser, following his return from Japan in 1877. Dresser, who originally specialised in botany, gaining a university doctorate, created a language of design inspired by his study of botany and cultures beyond the confines of the West.
